This week has been quite an adventure.
On Monday we did the usual stuff, went shopping, waited forever for computers, etc. etc. we went to the mission office for P-Day sports and I had to try and call a hundred doctors to try and get a doctor appointment. weird thing was that most of the numbers the mission nurse was giving me were for cancer clinics and heart doctors. (is that suppose to be a sign?) haha. eventually I found a doctor who I was looking for. After that I helped Sister Thompson gather the people singing the Quartet and Solo's to practice for a little. We are having a Musical Thingy (Conference, Devotional, Fireside...?) After that President asked my companions if they would be in a panel for the Senior Missionary Training that was happening that night. They agreed and we got to eat a great dinner with them and the Seniors all asked them weird questions and we didn't get home until 9:25ish.
Tuesday morning we woke up bright and early to teach seminary at 6 A.M. We roleplayed with the kids on how to talk about the gospel and how to give away a Book of Mormon. We went home and started our personal and companion study and by the time lunch came around we were starting to feel sick. so we had to cancel our plans for exchanges and ended up staying inside. We were sick. very sick. I was so bored of being sick and stuck inside that I entered everyone into my GPS and then took the directory and created pages of them divided into Cities. and LA (less active), A (active), and Unknown. I learned that from Sister Fuller.
Wednesday we woke up and tried to start our day off but by then we all knew that we had the flu; so we couldn't focus or make anything go right so we were told by the mission nurse to stay inside and sleep. We slept. forever. I continued to make the lists all day. That night the ward mission leader's wife Sister Gonda stopped by and gave us money to buy dinner, but we didn't go buy anything because we were so sick. Sister Smith the member we live with was kind enough to make us soup that settled.... well mostly.
Thursday we had enough energy to wake up and go pick up the college hill sisters and drive to interviews with the president. We sat there for 4 hours as we all learned about pamphlets and how to use them as we were pulled out one by one for interviews. After interviews we went to Olive Garden... Terrible idea. It tasted great though. Sister Christenot is lactose intolerant and so she was eating and some of the food that had a lot of cheese in it. She got very sick. That night we made a trip to Walmart to buy some Gatorade and crackers and some Sprite and this medicine stuff. and tri face posters.
Friday we were given permission to sleep in so that hopefully our bodies would get better. When we woke up we got ready for the day and went to the mission office and started to work on the fliers and posters for the Musical Fireside. After that we drove down to Derby for a zone music rehearsal. Some of the Missionaries are very irritating sometimes. Things would go by much faster if people would not make fun of the efforts that we placed into trying to organize this event. During the Quartet and Solo practices I finished the posters and gave them to the missionaries to put in their church building. We drove home after that and tried making phone calls; then just ended up watching the Testaments.
Saturday morning we woke up not feeling to great but better then the previous days. Well, at least I did. We ate breakfast and went downstairs to study, when Sister Thompson declared that something was wrong. We could all tell something had been wrong for the past few weeks. She had kept getting hot flashes and getting dizzy while both standing and sitting; but they were starting to get more frequent and close together. We were worried for her so we called the nurse and she said to wait until next week to schedule a doctor appointment. We didn't feel comfortable waiting. We asked for permission to go to the hospital. And 20 minutes later we were waiting in line at the ER. We then got a room and sat there. She had an IV put in and blood drawn. We sat there for 4 hours while they processed everything. Guess what. She isn't dying! but we have to go to a doctor who can do more tests to figure out what is going on because the ER only makes sure you aren't going to keel over and die on the side of the road. We went and ate and then went home and watched all of the church movies we had.
Sunday we woke up feeling pretty good so we went to church and the church was basically empty. we had maybe 50 people there. The discussion in Gospel Principles turned hostile and the spirit was not there. Relief Society was awkward. after church we had a good Meeting with the ward council and the ward missionaries about ideas we could do. We only have one person who is ‘anti’ with everything we suggest, but the bishop shot down that negative thought and told us that we should try every idea that we have to try to bring people closer to God.
We had dinner that night with the Gondas. and when we got home it was a downpour and lightning and awesomeness. But we were all depressed about how nothing went well this week and so we went downstairs and prayed that we would have a miracle and that our investigator Judy would contact us and we would know that she was okay (we had tried multiple times to get a hold of her, we even stopped by her house) as soon as the prayer ended, sister Thompson asked for the phone and the moment she took it Judy started calling. The awesome thing is that the phone was on silent. so we wouldn't have heard her calling. She called us to let us know that she was back from being at the hospital and that she had been there all week. We talked with her for a while and then asked her how her Book of Mormon reading was going. She said she hadn't read too much of it yet, so we asked how much. “100 pages”. She had read 100 pages already. She is Golden. It put a golden star on our terrible week and we went to bed very happy.
This week of having been sick and disappointed turned into a really great week. we had time to sit back and think about how to help the mission instead of how to fill in time. If we think outside of the box and desire to improve the way we find people then we will be blessed for trying to do something when nothing else was working.
I love being on a mission and it has been the best decision I have made.
I hope that everyone who is considering on going will pray full heartedly and then decide. Either way, Prepare to be a missionary. An Amazing member Missionary, or an Amazing Field Missionary.
Love You All
